I have made the following write up of the process of cleaning the throttle side switch housing that came off of a 1983 Venture.
This switch is from a Venture without cruise control. The 1983 to 1985 models should be similar.
The pictures show the switch completely removed from the bike.
I would recommend removing switch from bike if you perform this cleaning. There are a number of small springs and ball detents that are very easy to lose unless you have a large well lit working area.
