Riddle me this Batman...
As far as I have been able to determine, my 1997 RSTD can muster approximately 75 horses, yet the 1200cc Vmax of that era had 100+/- ponies. What gives? Where are they hiding, and are there ways (inexpensive ways) of corralling em up.

the Max has higher compression pistons and a V-boost and a diffrent transmission and rearend. it is geared for the strip

Just buy a used V Max, cheaper then converting. Lot less work and headaches

Camshaft/valve spring and carb swaps aren't all that difficult depending on how handy you are, and make a huge difference in the early Royal Stars. I'm making 90 rear wheel/106 crank hp in my '96. That 75 hp figure you mention must be crank. After cams and carbs the mods get a little more difficult.
