Not sure if I know how to do this poll - but -
Gas prices are at all time high and continue to keep going up. I am curious - what does this do to your riding plans?
No change - going to ride any how?
Ride more - because of better mpg on the scoot?
Ride less - because gas is to high to have fun?

I use my bike when I can, Instead of doing inspections on up coming jobs.
Sometimes, if the job is small, i'll pull my trailer, with my tools, and do the job that way.
I ride whenever i can weather it be to work or just out for fun, so iwont be changing my riding style as long as temp is above 32 degrees.

If I walk out the door and it's not raining I'm going to be riding :900[1]: I don't care what the price of gas is.

I ride year-round in any weather but ice (and I even do ice when the side car is running). I prefer the motorcycle to any other form of transportation. period.

This is a hobby for me. Its one of the few ways I can get away from everything and relax. Not giving that up in the near future.

I bought this bike specifically because it is actually quite a practical form of transportation as far as motorcycles are concerned. Having the ability to carry things in my trailer is icing on the cake.
I ride as much as possible since I have a V10 Excursion & a Chevy Avalanche to feed.

My cage is a F250 with the Power Stroke. I bought it originally because the fuel prices were less that Gas. That was when everything was less than $2.50 a gallon. I was in trucking at the time, owned 5 trucks. Fuel was one of the reasons I got out. I saw the hand writing when fuel became more expensive that gas.
As for the bike, I bought it in January because I could. It very quickly became a daily rider becasue of the fuel prices but mostly beacuse after not riding, but to play with someones new bike, I forgot how much I enjoyed it. While in the Navy on Oahu a bike was the only transpertation I had for many years. Moved to MO and still rode year round. If it was above 35 F I rode. (Ever been pelted by a snowball @ 45 mph??)
By the way this is the best bike I owned or for that matter I've riden!!!!

I try to ride more with the higher gas prices, I'm riding to work every day and even take the bike out for a quick run to the store. My Blazer gets 18 miles to the gallon.

There going so high that I'm thinking about taking that 1300 out of the 84 and put a ten speed gears and peddels on her............lol:confused24:
It would probly be easier to put the fairings and what have you on the bikecycle...

If I can get to work and not get wet, I'm riding. Coming home don't matter, can change clothes. I am looking at options for a different rain suit right now.

Don't have a cage -- just the RSV. Got to get to work and back, and it's too far to walk, so I ride.

Riding as much as possible to as many places as possible! Was out of the motorcycle hobby for about seven years but lately with gas prices and the long commute I have to work (65 miles each way) seemed like biking was the way to go.Have had the Venture 2 months now and have 1500 miles on it already so it's working out good.Getting to know the gas station folks well tho since every day round trip is time for a fill-up..lol.The 1st generation fits me well..we aren't getting older..we're just going faster!:backinmyday:

Road to work is a dangerous one as I have proven but I'll ride just have to dodge Bambi, Crackheads, plain idiots, potholes, bears, skunks, dogs, slow kids, trees, rock slides, coal trucks and a few things I've forgotten.

I mostly just do local rides here and there.I try t take the bike to work as much as i can but somtimes I have to make deleleveries so taking the bike always dosent work.
Anyway the gas used in my bike is nothing compared to the blow this is to boaters. I dont plan much more then a few miles to my favorite sandbar.

I am planning a 4 corners run in late August, even if it costs me more than planned. I am getting too old to pass on such things because of gas costs. I can always sleep in the woods instead of a bed, but this is my "trip of a lifetime" and I don't plan to let a bunch of greedy investors deprive me of the pleasure it will bring.
Thank you, US Government, for NOT stopping the market in futures!! :-(~~~~~~~~~:confused24:

price of gas,has cut my retirement check,by 15%,so if i want to make up for that,i drop my riding speed from 70 to 50-55---38 gpm to 42 at 70----48 gpm to 55 at 50,that was thru no AR and so MO,HAVE A LOT MORE TIME THAN MONEY,as of today, it cost about 10 cents a mile, drink more water, and less D Q's
any more idias to save are welcome
:fiddle::puzzled:
Than my crown vic. I've always commuted on the bikes and always will. Sunday drives only on the bikes. Cold weather , i break out the sidecar.

Had it not been for the gas prices going up in the first place, I would never have bought a bike. My "cage" is an 05 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 with the 5.7 liter Hemi. I bought it two weeks before the gas prices started to rise. I had hoped they'd stabilze or drop. Neither has happened and now I'm too far into paying it off to even think about trading it. My wife's Geo Prizm still gets 31 mpg, so we're using that for our weekend runaround. The bike will be for work and the truck will be for church (Wednesday nights and Sundays) as well as traveling until such a time as we are able to buy a more economical car.

I live in one of the best spots in the country for rides - Pacific NW - Have 3 scoots and my only dilemma is which one comes out of its stall today.
During the week when traffics down and the roads are dry the 86' Eliminator ZL900 comes out alot and it's to the mountain roads for some sssspppppeeedd handling rides.
Day trip to Seattle - 2 hour drive - or to the ocean beaches 1 hour ride with no rider many times it's the 82' Maxim XJ110J - more room to carry stuff and lots of POWER to keep up / set the pace with buds on crotch rockets.
When it's Momma and mwah out rolls the 83' VR for comfort, speed and handling for two up, especially on longer hauls - like those improv trips to BEST rib joint in the NW in Spokane, WA - 10 hour round trip.
Come on out for a ride and a BBQ anytime.

I hear alot of people say " I got a motorcycle to save on gas"... yeah we all use that excuse... but I seem to spend more with a motorcycle... yes I got good mileage but because of that I tend to ride ALOT more..... so I end up spending more on gas... but it is also a form of relaxation and keeps me from killing other humans so it is worth it..

Wow..has this come around again so soon? Well. thank you, Mr. Resident Obama!!!
I don't think I will let gas prices restrict me unless they go up to $4.00 again, which is not without the realm of possibility, considering that the oil leases released do not stipulate rapid development, and the ones we could most quickly activate (ANWR) have been cancelled.
(That couldn't be political development, considering Sarah is still from Alaska.....or could it?)
I ride mostly within a 3-5 hour radius of home and can better afford that as opposed to my 20 mpg car, so I guess I will probably still ride the bike about the same amount as now.
Hope it doesn't keep anyone from enjoying their Venture or other brand bike.
Ride safe, ride long, and keep the Venture logo alive forever!!!:12101:

Since I use both diesel and gas for my job (in a 4:1 ratio) and have tracked costs for both on this basis since 2005, I can tell you the four week average fuel price for the lower atlantic region. Right now, I'm showing $2.88, with an all time high of $4.58 for the third week July, 2008.
If you like to be more specific: Regular unleaded was $2.787 two weeks ago,(slightly lower now) and the highest I've recorded was $4.024 in the second week of july, 2008. Needless to say this varies by region and whether you use premium gas.
I ride to work, the store and on weekends, but since I don't work in the rain, I don't ride in the rain lest I get caught, at which time I will curse the person whom I lent my Frog Togs to a year ago and who hasn't bothered to send them back.
should've checked, thread started two years ago!

My cage is a Ford Explorer 02 which gets about 19MPG. My 09 RSV does much better so I ride whenever possible and will continue to do so!

Places to go, people to see. Can't let gas prices get in the way of that. Driving the same as before.

... as that helps keep the budget better under control. HOWEVER, IF I buy that 1998 Caddy I posted on ... the budget may scream at me much louder! It looks like a strong possibility, as the old 92 Buick LeSabre is ready to retire at 218,000 miles.

I ride year round out of necessity and enjoyment. My venture is my main day to day ride for work, play, running errands and at least half of our out of town trips, depending on the weather and if the wife wants to ride very far or not. Even with the hard winters we have here, I can at-least ride to work about half or more of December and January. My main cage right now is a diesel suburban 4x4 and I'm perfectly happy to leave it sit in the driveway most of the time except for when it's needed like snow and ice days or for family trips and outings. I don't go on many rides just for the sake of riding any more since I get more than enough joy out of riding on a daily basis just going to work, the store, where ever. The price of fuel hasn't really changed anything for me except for noticing how much more we pay now.

Well the thing with me is I am addicted to riding. So if gas is $7.00 a gallon then I will be putting $7.00 a gallon gas in my bike for pleasure. The wife and I put about 38,000 miles on last year riding so I do not expect to do less this year. Well maybe a little since I am working.

I live in the Seattle / Tacoma area, and I only ride when the weather is forecasted to be really sunny. So I don't ride much. So as far gas prices goes, at just less than $4.00 per gal is not an issue nor will it be at $5.00 or $6.00 a gal. 5 gallons times $6.00 being $30.00 for about a 200 mile round trip or about three hours of enjoyment. I would consider it a bargain at around $10.00 an hour.
A round of Golf can run from $30.00 to $70.00.
When I go shooting, there is range fees and ammo. One can go thru a lot of ammo in 3 hours of shooting.
When I go to the Casinos. Well that’s another story. $30.00 is ok for the penny slots, but for Black Jack & Craps, I usually need a minimum of $100.00 at $5.00 a pop and that can last about 5 minutes or a couple of hours, and if I keep my head on straight and remember the motto. Leave when you're are ahead. I usually go in with $100.00 and at some stage if I'm up 40 to 60 dollars, it time to leave, and that seems to work to my favor. It's those that do not know when to leave always looses.
Recreation, its all fun and enjoyment. Need to keep it all in proper perspective.
So fill up the tank, smile and enjoy the ride.

Here in the UK, europe has decided that we buy fuel in litres. The average cheapest here is £1.36/litre.
£1.36 x 4.5 = £6.23/gallon = $10.11/gallon. Diesel is more expensive.
The average on the motorways (Highways) is £1.43/litre
