Hi ya'll... I'm not a terribly active member here on this site, but I thought I'd share this with you all to see if you'd be interested in giving it a go. I can't claim this as an original idea, as someone on another motorcycle board I frequent came up with it... We're having so much fun (that thread is 115 pages now), I thought I'd pass it on here.

Since we are heading into some beautiful weather, and we're all looking for any excuse to ride, lets see if we can have fun while we're at it!!

Here are the simple and basic rules... Don't forget.. this is for fun and entertainment!!

The person who scores first on the target gets to set the next target.
Targets must be fairly generic so that anyone can hit them with a little effort. No targets like, you, your bike, and the Golden Gate bridge for instance.. A more suitable target would be - you, your bike, and a truss style bridge.
Nothing dangerous or illegal.
No old pictures. You must seek out the target after it's announced, not use a picture you already have.
No Photoshopping.
Targets must involve you and your bike in some way.
Anyone may announce a prize for hitting the next target (prizes should be of minimal value or for the purpose of fund raisers on this site). A suitable prize would be a ride bell for instance.
Post your picture (or a link to your picture) in this thread.some of the funnier targets from the other site were things like "you, your bike, and a drag queen", or "you, your bike in front of an employement agency, and you holding a sign that says 'will work for chrome'", and a favorite of mine "You, your bike, and at least two Hooters girls (dressed in Hooters attire)".

So let me kick this off by setting the first target!

You, your bike, and a covered bridge.

Good Luck, have fun, and be creative!

PS: Mods and Admins - Please modify rules here as necessary to be within site policy. I don't want to step on any toes with regards to "prizes" or "fundraisers".

I really do like this. Sounds like a LOT of fun and we should get some great pictures from it. I don't understand how the prizes or any fund raising works though. Even without that, I think it would be great.

It was something that just sort of happened on the other site I frequent. Someone who sells ride bells on the site announced in the thread that they'd award a bell to the next target hit, just to add a little spice to the mix. It's certainly not necessary, but just thought I'd mention it.

And yes.. it is a LOT of fun, and we've got a ton of amazing pictures to prove it! :)

One of these days Tom, one of these days!

My buddy and I go to Florida every November to kind of close out our riding season. Last year, we thought we'd have some fun and made it an "All-Hooters" tour. For a week, we visited a different Hooters in and around the area where we were staying ... the grand finale was on Saturday when we had an appetizer at the Ft Myers Beach store (where that pictire was taken), lunch at the Cape Coral store and dessert at the Ft Myers store ... wound up hitting 11 different stores in the 7 days ... :cool10: ... got the pictures with the girls at each of them :).

Cheers,

Wow Lou, hope you didn't get any smudges on that black cherry..LOLDoes drool count as "smudge"???

In all seriousness, we all had a lot of fun with the "John & Lou's All- Hooters Tour", including the girls and the store managers. At every store, we approached the managers first and told them what we were doing, and got their approval to have the young ladies come out for a picture on the bike. At the last stop on the tour (Spring Hill, FLA), they even gave each of us a calendar ...

As said earlier, it MUST be a picture taken since this was started. NOT a picture taken last year or any other time previous.

hmmmm....if the picture is of your bike AND the Hooters girls, I will include the bell AND the patches. :)

Too late on the covered bridge. The winner has now designated a caboose for the next challenge. Heck...there is actually a caboose about 12 miles up the road from me that has been converted to a diner...if I could just get my bike out of the driveway I could win this one.

PM on its way.

That pic did turn out better than I thought it would. Lori was ill today and couldn't go down with me to take it. I ended up propping the camera up on one of the posts that's rammed into the ground in front of the bridge to keep traffic off of it, and then using a stick to level and aim the camera. The ten second timer just barely gave me enough time to run up there and jump on. In fact in this pic, I was still getting the bike into balance and shifting my weight and I looked up just in time to see the flash go off. I figured that one was no good, so I did another one that went better, but then I ended up using the first one anyway. I liked it better.

It's been in the 40s and 50s around here for several days. Our snow is gone. The water does look high in that pic, doesn't it? It didn't strike me as being that high when I was there.

I didn't know if I had to take a picture myself of what the next target had to be. I didn't see it as being a rule, so I didn't. I wonder if it might be a fun additional rule though. I could have done it. There are two cabooses within ten miles of me, and a couple more within an hour's ride. I rode by one of them on my way back home. What I really wanted to pick was an old round barn, but I figured they are really too rare for there to be much competition.

I know I am a Pain, BUT here is an idea only, is it possible to start a NEW Topic area and each time there is a winner someone makes a new post, with the new Item for the scavenger.

This way it may make it easier to find what we are looking for. JUST an idea.

Well, if nobody is going to get this then I'm off to Hershey Park tomorrow. The Ferris Wheel is right next to the road. My wife will enjoy her first ride of the season. You have 24 hours to beat me to it. If I win, I'll pick the snowman...

Well, wife and I got on the scoot for a ride up to Hershey. Didn't get too far. Flat tire. I've been meaning to order some Ride-On. Is this only available on line? Does Wally World carry it?

Ron, the only way to be embarrassed would be to have never tried. Great picture, good try, and added to the fun. In E. Peoria in my area, there is a Christmas display on a hill that looks like wreath, but is actually an old ferris wheel. Wouldn't have counted though, because it can't carry people anymore!

Working on the pic. It say's file to big.I have to figure out how to downsize the pics.:detective::detective:

Right click on the pic, if you have an option that says "resize picture", select that and select 640x480. It will give you a copy of that pic that has the file name and says "small" after that. This is the file you want to upload. If you don't have that option, go here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx , look along the right hand column till you find the "picture resizer" file. Download to ur 'puter, then that option will come up when you right click on the pic. Orrrrr, email me the pic at danob11@comcast.net and I'll do it for you and then send it back to ya.

Not sure how to get my bike across that pond between here and Africa.....

Everything you need to know to complete your mission is covered by the following hints:

Necessity is the mother of invention
Imagination is the bridge between here and there
If there is a will there is a way
If you fail to plan you plan to fail
Every adventure begins with the first step
To follow your dream point your nose in that direction, then follow your nose
Walking ain't crowded, but riding is more fun.
It's not the destination it's the journey
Can't never could do anything
Life is fleeting so don't forget your camara
You don't need to know everything as long as you know how to find out what you need to know
I don't know what I know, but, I know what I don't know
Do not attempt to use motorcycle as ocean going vehicle
There are Giraffes on the North American Continent

Targets must be fairly generic so that anyone can hit them with a little effort. No targets like, you, your bike, and the Golden Gate bridge for instance.. A more suitable target would be - you, your bike, and a truss style bridge.

dosent this new target defy the rules?

OK, I agree that my target may require a little more effort than the previouse targets so far. It is also not my intention by the choice of this target to make it so difficult as to kill the game. My choice was selected with the intent of making the game more interesting by making it a little more challenging.

In my perspective, I felt that the fun of the game, was in large part, added incentive to get the scoot out of the garage and enjoy spring time riding with a goal and a destination in mind. The fact that this target may require a little more effort in forethought, research and planning was by design. But by no means impossible regardless of your geographical location.

The target, Purposely selected to be more of a challenge was due to the realization that so far, in my case, at least one of every one of the targets can be located and photographed within a three mile radius of my driveway. Some of the targets there are multiple examples within that distance. In Fact, at this moment I can walk outside to the driveway and take a picture of a Giraffe within three feet of where my bike is parked at now, without cranking the bike and going anywhere. But that was too easy where's the fun in that. The fact that that Giraffe is only three foot tall and made of concrete prompted me to add the word live to the criteria.

I did not select this target at random to stump the band and did actually some research and homework before posting Giraffes as the next target. With the help of my housemate, who in a past life and career was one of the foremost exotic animal handelers in the United States and had placed, handeled or transported 90 % of the live Giraffes in the lower 48 and can recite by memory the sex, age, name, temperment and exact location of every one of them. But to post that information would defeat the challenge intended.

Statiscally, even though there may not be one located on your block, or maybe not even in the geographical confines of your home town. If you reside in one of the 48 lower continental United States and Hawaii there is at least one living in your home state. Alaska and the provinces of Canada may be more of a challenge because of Climate considerations. However, still not impossible considering the quallifying criteria, or the logistical restraints if you consider the problem with a little imagination and think outside of the box. The US state with the highest number of Giraffes is home for 35 or more of the critters.

With all of that said, and in the spirit of the fun of the game and as to not kill the game, upon the request or concensus of opinion as to the validity or fairness of my target selection I will respectfully and cheerfully withdraw my target, select an easier new target, or pass. Whatever the concensus deems appropiate. Maybe a thread pole to determine the concensus of opinion may be a fair way to decide what best fits the nature and spirit of the game.

Regardless, I sincerely apologize if my participation made the game more complicated or less fun in any way, That certainly was not my intent.

Cinderella,
I'm surprised at your ineffective approach by attacking the problem with your forehead against a brick wall. Weren't you the one that went to the Prince's ball riding in a pumpkin pulled by rats that had been turned into horse's and then dance with the prince all night long backwards and in glass slippers. And correct me if I'm wrong but didn't you end up marrying the prince when the whole village thought you the least likely to be chosen.

Now i'm just a Dragonslayer, but I thought for sure you would find a magical way to solve this problem. Maybe if you consulted your Fairy God Mother she might assist you with her magic wand.

Keep trying I believe in you and in magic.

Sometimes, permission is easier than forgiveness. Perhaps if you sought permission from the authorities they would be less likely to cop an attitude about your unauthorized access and forgo the need for having you placed under arrest and your bike impounded.

Dan Hey Your getting warm, at least you got the lid off the box and are trying to play. I would accept enough of you, your bike and a live Giraffe in the photo to be able to determine it is you, your bike and a live giraffe. But if you get a little further out of the box you might find a way to be granted access so that you can get all of you, your bike and the Giraffe in the photo. Think of how you might pitch the Zoo Keeper to get him on your side so that you can get you and your bike inside his Zoo.

PS. The Giraffe may need to be bribed as well carry some carrots in your pocket.

Think of how you might pitch the Zoo Keeper to get him on your side so that you can get you and your bike inside his Zoo.

PS. The Giraffe may need to be bribed as well carry some carrots in your pocket.

You gotta remember, my bikes apart for maintenance right now!!!!!!!

When we moved to Oklahoma 4 years ago one of the first things we ran across was someone in Bixby Oklhoma just on the south side of Tulsa who had 2 LIVE giraffes in their front yard. Haven't been past there is a couple of years, will need to take a detour and see if the giraffes are still around.

Keep your eyes open and you never know what you might see.

Oh yea, I forgot about that in your case you may need the box. I don't recall any specific rules stating you had to actually be riding the bike. If it were up to me I would tend to award "A" for effort providing that you were photographed with a large enough piece of your bike to establish without doubt that it was your bike and that you followed the nature and intent of the game to the best of your ability considering the current condition of your ride. That's just me and not wishing to exclude you as a fellow member. But we may need to ask for a ruling in your case from a higher authority than me. Does anybody know if there is a higher authority to referee the rules. Maybe Freebird or the original thread starter?

Rosebud, you are so very right and your signature says it profoundly. In my lifetime I have been blessed on so many occassions to have been granted the priveledge and opportunity to witness first hand many of the wonders of God's creation. None of which would have been possible had he not given me the gift of sight or if I choose to have kept my eyes closed. Good luck on the detour.

Yup, that's why I thought this would be an easier one, than what else I had in mind. With the LEOs we have here, I would have thought one would con a buddy or 2 to help with getting the shot needed.

Back at home the RCMP had started, parking in different areas of the parking lot, to avoid group photos of the cars with the "Tim Hortons" sign above the cars. Here we get RCMP & MPs (Military Police) meeting at the local Timmies (nickname for Tim Hortons).

In my home area, late evening is the best, multiple targets to choose from.......
In the county were I live you would have to go to a bar, liqoure store or Ilegal Video Poker gambling casino to find a cop. If you need potection you better be packing a gun or a condom in your pocket because thats the only potection you gonna get. The cops are useless around here. Unless you park your motorhome on the street for a minute or forget to cut your grass one weekend they will come by and write you a code violation ticket while at same time, within site of a gang banger drive by shooting. My neighbors are considering changing the name of the subdivision from Creek Dale. to Crack Dale. I kid you not. I'd Love to see a cop at a Donut Shop at least I would think he was getting a little Cafiene and sugar energy rush to fight crime with. But in this county he'd probably just be shaking the merchant down for freebies.

My Apologies If I offended any of the Good Cops out there, I sincerely appreciate and respect the job all the honest cops do, I just wish you would move here there seems to be a lot of openings at high scale wages. We need more honest cops around here. I'm just angry because our Police Dapartment can't seem to Police themselves.

I'll shut up now, this is probably not the venue to vent on this subject but I didn't bring up the Cop at the Donut Shop target. I choose Giraffes.

P.S. So the gas stations in Albuquerque sell doughnuts... if I can get a picture of a Cop standing at their car holding a doughnut they purchased at that gas station next to my bike with me on it would that count? How 'bout if I include a signed affidavit.

Only potential problem is the lack of the doughnut shop sign in one pic, as the sign above the door on the building behind the cars doesn't seem to match up, to the stated shop. Can you get another pic of the sign, from a better angle, to verify it is a doughnut shop.

Try & get part of the dounut shop building in the pic with you, bike & cop car. If needed take another pic of building with sign showing & normally the building style should match between the various pics.

Other than that very good, I was hoping we would be moving on, but if we are strictly keeping to the goals of the picture(s), I guess this one is still open.

Yup you heard me right... and to make it as fair as possible it can be made from artificial snow but must be about 12 inches tall or at least as tall as your helmet, so get your bike and helmet in the picture.

Be creative, if you have an indoor ice rink around that gets scraped and cleaned once and a while, live near the mountains, have a big snow bank that hasn’t completely melted yet or perhaps a snow cone machine, see if you can scratch up enough to make a snowman!

... keep your cool, it can’t be any harder then when I was digging in the snow to find a ‘wild cactus’. Hopefully if anyone hasn’t shoveled out their bikes yet this might get them motivated.:080402gudl_prv:

True the plane in your pics is closer to the runway, but the control tower can be seen between the bike antennas in the second pic & another airport building is shown in another pic (painted in red & white squares). This airport is on an island off shore of Toronto.

True the plane in your pics is closer to the runway, but the control tower can be seen between the bike antennas in the second pic & another airport building is shown in another pic (painted in red & white squares). This airport is on an island off shore of Toronto.

A ruling is needed on this one........
Yes, this is a single engine aircraft departing from the Toronto Island Airport.

The control tower can be seen between the antennas of the bike... I’ve cropped the picture to give you a better view.

Was someone looking for a snowman?
The carbs have yet to be installed so I brought the snowman to the bike.

OK the carbs are in and its running.
Next is a pic of you and your bike parked in front of a kenworth with the driver of the truck.
Its an easy one but it reminds me of the time I looked in my mirrors and saw nothing but grill!

Just remember the key word here is "parked" in front of a Kenworth.

I need to get the Venture out of storage.
