Wireless-N Help Please..

I am going to switch over to Wireless N Technology

I have noticed that there is so many to choose from.

I am wanting any feedback on anyone that has gone this way.

I am now using Linksys WRT54G.

I also am switching over to a higher speed cable connection.

Dumping my slow 756k DSL.

This is one of most durable products on market, and easy to setup. Works with PC and Mac 802.11n is standard. range and security is way better then competition products. make sure your laptops have latest 802.11n firmware installed.:cool10:

I got it for $109 at best buy. It comes with an install disc that made everything simple.
My PS3 and laptop work flawlessly from 2 floors and over 150 feet away.

Thanks for the link Tom. I may have to try one of those. Right now I'm using a Linksys antennaless router, and the signal get's a little weak from the remote office. If I remember it ran about $30 bucks at Sam's Club. I guess you get what you pay for... The only time I can pick up an 'excellent' connection is when I'm sitting on top of it. Although 'very good' seems to be working for the most part out here. I'd just like a better signal.

I use a Netgear WNR834B . It works well. I would NOT recommend Linksys to anybody. We have had several of their routers and switches just quit on us. Cisco is the way to go for reliability but that unit will run over 800 dollars.

I use a linksys wireless-G, with 3 antennas, works very well all over the house. Whichever one you select will run faster than the cable connection will. It seems like the draft standards for wireless change faster than microsoft comes ou with security patches so do not get to wrapped up in the "N", "G", etc terms.

I'm facing the same thing. I already have a wireless network based on the "g" standard. I'm getting ready to install my DSL though and for now I plan on keeping both so will be adding another wireless network in my house for redundancy until I have ample time to test both. What I'm finding in my research is that many of the wireless routers only give great performance if you also install their matching wireless cards in your notebooks. I have no intention of buying new cards for our 3 notebook computers at this time. CNET does some pretty good tests but I have still not decided.

Several rated much better. This one is high priced for one that really doesn't perform as well as some that are about half the cost. Of course for you Apple lovers, anything made by Apple is always the best. :)

The older model of this one rates higher than the one from Apple. They haven't test this new model yet that I can find. They rate this one as "one of the best they have seen".

yes Don , .. so , what I ended up doing is I purchased the Linksys350N The only reason I did not go with the
NetGear was that for the extra 20 bucks I also can USB my 500Gig Hard
Drive to the Linksys and I can FTP to it from anywhere.. kind of a neat feature. Unlike some here I have had nothing but good luck and good service support from the gang there and the product. after all that said.
And now owning a N Router there is NO Difference in performance then
my old faithful WRT54G Linksys Router. But Like I say I now have the USB Port AND in the future I can Up Grade a couple cards.
I also Just switched over From my Slow 756 Kb DSL to Cable and I am now running at over 7,000 kb.. IT is incredibly fast , heck my pages are opening even before I click my mouse now.. :)

Ohhhhh And THANKS Everybody for all of your input it really helped get me down to at least the $100.00 Range
and I see no use in paying over that for any N router. and BTW.... In JUNE of 08 the next Will be the (Y) Router.
All it does is give you almost 2 miles of range and nothing more, but the format will be called (Y)
I also have Encrypted all our home computers as well. (no since in having my neighbors using up my bandwidth)

Well Don I'm not saying airport extreme is chipest one on market, But from my expirence, working and dealing daily with Control 4, LiveWare, Crestron and HAI home automation wireless networks, Which are windows based, apple air port extreme has best range, extremly easy to set up, and durability is comparable as some Cisco WAP which cost $1500.

Cnet Review is old or they dont know what they are talking about. Gigabit Ethernet port is standard on all AirPort Extreme. And 802.11n is standard for PC and Mac machines.

hmmm....sorry...I just can't agree with you. I just used CNET for one example. I've really been reading a lot of reviews and none of them have rated the Airport anywhere near the top and certainly not the longest range. Also, the Wireless N standard has not even been finalized yet and a LOT of computers are still coming with g/a. In fact, I read your post and then went to the Dell site and looked at their notebooks and they are still shipping with the g standard wireless.

i have a dell m1530 and only came with the draft N it will work with the others though there was not an option for B or G

I wonder if they have reverted back? I don't know. I just looked again and all except the Inspiron 1720 show to be g now.

I haven't done a lot with wireless... couple setups is all. As for product, I've been pretty happy with both Linksys and D-link. For the most part, I've used D-link products for quite a while....never had any issues with them.
