I went with a solution that did not require me to mount a remote in my bike.
I have a LiftMaster garage door operator and I got a mini remote control from my favorte garage door operator installer (Father In-law) that I keep on the bikes key ring, so it is right by the key switch on the bike when I am riding... because on my Yamaha Venture I cannot remove the key while the bike is running :( ...which is something to look into for a future mod... are there any locksmiths out there?
the one I have is the top left in the photo below (Model 970LM) I like the high contrast of the button and the case:

I programed the two outside buttons to open my door and the center button to open MrsSquid's door and my door at the same time.
It seams to be reasonably water resistant, so I am not afraid to ride the with it in the rain, however it is NOT waterproof.......caveat emptor.
Check the manufacturer's web site for your operator to see if they offer something similar for your brand of operator.

the saddle bags rails are from Honda Valkyrie. All the others chrome plates on the bike are home made .
